| Polynomials are so simple. If it's addition, you can only add them if they have the same exponent and variable. If so, then you add the variables beside the exponent. Exponent doesn't change. Subtraction is the same thing only subtract the exponents.
You can only multiply or divide them if they have the same variables. For multiplication, you add the exponents but variable doesn't change. Division is the same only you subtract the exponents.
And this is Shman.
O yea and the if and thens are something you'll do in geometry.

Addition-
X^2+X^2=2X^2
X^2+X^4=X^2=X^4 You can't add them, exponents are different. Subtraction is the same.
Multiplication-
X^4*X^7=X^11
X^4*Z^5=X^4=Z^5 You can't multiply them, they have different variables.
